How to Increase Views on Instagram Reels: 12 Fixes That Work
If your reels are stuck at a few hundred views, the problem is rarely the algorithm being against you. It is usually something specific: people swipe away in the first two seconds, the reel runs longer than its idea, or nothing in it makes anyone want to send it to a friend. This guide explains how Instagram decides who sees a reel, then gives you 12 fixes you can apply to your next one.
How Instagram decides how many people see a reel
Instagram shows a new reel to a small group first, often a mix of followers and people who watch similar content. If that group watches it and reacts, it is shown to more people. If they swipe away, distribution slows down.
Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, has said the signals that matter most are watch time, likes per reach and sends per reach (how often people share it in DMs). Likes matter more with your followers; sends matter most for reaching people who don't follow you yet. Every fix below aims at one of those three.
1. Win the first two seconds
Most lost views happen at the very start. Open with the most interesting moment, a bold claim, or the result before the process. Put a short line of on-screen text in the first frame so the idea lands even with the sound off. Our list of reel hooks has openers you can adapt.
2. Make the reel as short as the idea
There is no perfect length. A joke might need 7 seconds; a recipe might need 45. Cut every pause, intro and “hey guys”. If a viewer could skip a section without losing anything, cut it. Shorter reels also get rewatched more, which adds to watch time.
3. Give people a reason to send it
Sends are the strongest signal for reaching new people. Reels get sent when they're useful (“you need this”), relatable (“this is so you”) or surprising. Ask yourself who a viewer would send this to. If there's no obvious answer, sharpen the idea.
4. Make it worth saving
Tips, lists, recipes, templates and step-by-step guides get saved because people want them later. A save shows the reel has lasting value. Say “save this for later” only when it is genuinely true.
5. Film vertical, sharp and bright
Use the full 9:16 frame, good light and clear audio. Keep text and faces away from the bottom and right edges where Instagram places the caption and buttons. Upload the original file rather than a re-download with another app's watermark, since Instagram has said it favours original content.
6. Post when your audience is online
A reel that gets a strong response in its first hour has a better chance of being pushed further. Post when your followers are active. Our best time to post finder gives starting times by country, and the best time to post guide shows how to find your own.
7. Write captions that add something
The caption should add context the video doesn't: a key tip, the recipe, the location, or a question that invites replies. Use words people would search for, because Instagram search reads captions as well as hashtags.
8. Use up to five relevant hashtags
Since December 2025 Instagram allows a maximum of five hashtags on a post or reel. Pick specific tags that describe the reel rather than generic ones like #reels or #viral. Our guide to hashtags for Instagram reels explains how to choose them.
9. Ride trends that fit your niche
Trending sounds and formats can lift reach, but only when they suit your content. See how to find trending reels for ways to spot them early.
10. Post consistently
Accounts that post reels regularly give Instagram more chances to find the right audience, and give you more data on what works. Two good reels a week beats seven rushed ones.
11. Reply to early comments
Replying in the first hour keeps the conversation going and brings people back to the reel. Pin a comment that adds value, like a link to part two or the answer to a common question.
12. Learn from your own winners
Compare your best and worst reels: the hook, length, topic and posting time. Repeat what the winners share. Finding your best-performing posts walks through this, and Reel Research shows what the top reels in your topic have in common.
What to avoid
Skip apps and websites that promise free reel views or followers. They usually ask for your login, which puts your account at risk, and fake views don't come with watch time or sends, so they don't help the reel reach real people. Deleting and reposting the same reel, or using banned or irrelevant hashtags, can also hold your reach back.
FAQ
Why are my Instagram reel views suddenly low?
Common reasons are a weaker hook, a topic your audience cares less about, posting at a quiet time, or a reel that runs longer than its idea. Compare it with your recent best reels to find the difference. A sudden drop across every reel can also follow a guideline issue, so check Account Status in your settings.
Instagram reels viral kaise kare?
Pehle 2 second mein hook do, reel ko idea jitna chhota rakho, aur aisa content banao jo log dosto ko bhejein ya save karein. Jab aapke followers active hon tab post karo, aur sirf 5 relevant hashtags use karo.
Do free reel view apps work?
They might raise the number, but not the reach. Fake views don't watch the whole reel or share it, so Instagram doesn't show it to more real people, and many of these apps ask for your password.
