How the YouTube money calculator works

It multiplies your views by a typical RPM: what creators earn for every 1,000 views after YouTube keeps its share (YouTube passes 55% of the ad money on long videos to the creator). RPM counts every view, including views where no ad played, so it is the right number for estimating income.

The middle figure is a fair guess. The range below it shows how much the same views can earn on a weak month versus a strong one.

Typical YouTube RPM by audience country

Where your viewers live matters most, because advertisers pay very different prices in each country. Long videos, general topics:

Viewers mostly inPer 1,000 viewsPer 1 million views
USA, UK, Canada, Australia$2 – $8$2,000 – $8,000
Western Europe$1.5 – $5$1,500 – $5,000
India$0.3 – $1.5$300 – $1,500
Other countries$0.5 – $2$500 – $2,000

How the topic changes earnings

Advertisers pay more to reach people who are about to spend money. Compared with a general channel:

How much do YouTube Shorts pay?

Much less per view than long videos. Shorts money comes from a shared pool, and most channels earn about $0.02 to $0.1 per 1,000 Shorts views. Shorts are great for getting new subscribers, but long videos earn most of the ad money.

FAQ

How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?

Most channels earn somewhere between $0.30 and $8 per 1,000 long-video views after YouTube's share. Viewers in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia pay the most; India pays much less per view. Finance and tech pay more than gaming, music or kids videos. Shorts usually earn only a few cents per 1,000 views.

How much does YouTube pay for 1 million views?

For long videos, roughly $300 to $8,000, depending mostly on where viewers live and the topic. With an Indian audience it is usually toward the lower end. For 1 million Shorts views, it is usually $20 to $100.

What is RPM on YouTube?

RPM (revenue per mille) is what you earn per 1,000 views, after YouTube's share. It counts every view, including views where no ad played, so it is the most useful number for estimating income. You can see your own RPM in YouTube Studio under Analytics, Revenue.

How accurate is this calculator?

It gives a range, not an exact figure. Real earnings depend on the season (ad rates rise before the holidays), video length, how many ads play and who watches. Type your own RPM from YouTube Studio for the closest estimate.

When can I start earning money on YouTube?

You need to join the YouTube Partner Program. For ad money, that means 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million public Shorts views in the last 90 days.

Does this count sponsorships?

No. It only estimates ad money from YouTube. Many creators earn as much or more from sponsors, affiliate links, memberships and their own products.
