How to Find Buyers, Questions and Complaints in Your Instagram Comments

EngagementBy the Pixtale Growth team · · 3 min read

Your Instagram comments are full of sales leads, product questions and early warnings. Here is how to read them properly, by hand or with AI, and what to do with each kind.

Likes tell you how many people reacted. Comments tell you what they want. Hidden between the emojis are people asking for the price, asking where to buy, asking the same question again and again, and sometimes complaining before it turns into a bad review.

Here is how to sort your comments into what matters and act on each type.

The five kinds of comments worth finding

  1. Buying intent: "Price?", "Link please", "Where can I buy this?", "Do you deliver to Pune?". These are warm leads.
  2. Questions: about sizes, ingredients, how-to steps or availability. Repeated questions are content ideas.
  3. Complaints: late delivery, no reply on DM, wrong item, price too high. These need a fast, public, polite reply.
  4. Requests: "Part 2 please", "Do a video on Jaipur cafes". Your audience is telling you what to post next.
  5. Praise: great for testimonials (with permission) and to see which posts people loved.

Generic comments like "Nice" or a single emoji count toward engagement but carry little meaning, so don't let them hide the useful ones.

How to analyse comments by hand

  1. Pick your five to ten posts with the most comments from the last 30 days.
  2. Copy the comments into a sheet with columns for type (buying, question, complaint, request, praise) and post.
  3. Tag each comment. Mixed-language comments ("kitne ka hai bhai?") are common in India, so read carefully.
  4. Count each type per post and note the top three questions and complaints.
  5. Track the overall mood over time: is it getting more positive or more negative?

It works, but for a busy account it can take hours, and it is easy to miss a complaint that's getting likes from other unhappy customers.

How to do it with AI in a minute

Pixtale Growth's Comment Intelligence reads the comments on an account's most-discussed posts and sorts them for you:

It works on any public account, so you can also read your competitors' comments and see what their customers complain about.

What to do with each kind of comment

Comments also lift your reach

Replies add to the conversation on a post, and posts with active discussions tend to be shown to more people. Ending captions with a simple question makes people comment more. See our tips on getting more reel views and writing reel hooks.
